The project to reform America: a matter for science, or a matter of will?

What  key can we turn to reform America?  Some believe the answer lies in theory.  What answers do political science and sociology give us about the causes of America’s problems?  Will scientists describe the solution, then we decide if and how to implement it?  Or do our elites and scientists use their superior understanding to change America, manipulating its people like lab rats?

Perhaps the solutions lies on a more basic level, beyond theory.  Beyond science.  Perhaps America will be what we will it to be.   The media — Internet, talk radio, TV, print — are the stage for our dialog as we seek a path to the future.

“Choice. The problem is choice.”
Neo, The Matrix Reloaded

“Do, or do not. There is no try.”
— Yoda, The Empire Strikes Back

Ulysses” by Lord Alfred Tennyson (1842)

Tho’ much is taken, much abides; and tho’
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
